What the acceptance rate tells you

The official sources linked below do not provide a verified piano-specific acceptance rate. An institution-wide undergraduate rate describes a particular applicant group and year; it cannot be converted into your personal chance of admission or used as a graduate-program rate.

Piano audition requirements

CCM publishes BM piano requirements on its public audition page. Prescreening calls for at least three solo pieces from contrasting style periods, including a complete sonata by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven (excluding Op. 49), or Schubert. Complete multi-movement works and cycles must follow the school’s stated rules.

For BM Piano Performance and double majors, final repertoire follows the prescreening requirements. Music Education with a piano concentration has different final-audition instructions, including a sonata Allegro movement rather than necessarily a complete sonata. Memorization is expected, with specified exceptions for unusually difficult modern works. Submit through the linked Acceptd portal and check current deadlines there and on the official page.

Tuition and financial aid

UC is a public university, so residency classification and the applicable tuition cohort can affect charges. Include CCM-specific fees where listed. Compare the full cost after your actual aid offer with other schools rather than assuming the public-university option is always cheaper.

Build your audition plan

Make a separate checklist for your degree and instrument: prescreening pieces, final-audition pieces, memorization rules, permitted substitutions, and deadlines. Record complete takes, check the sound for distortion, and follow the school’s framing and file instructions. Ask admissions about any ambiguity before recording.
